So you’ve got an important function coming up, and you need to buy an evening dress for this special occasion. But what if you’ve never bought one before? Maybe you’re on a tight budget, and can’t afford to spend a lot? I’m going to suggest some tips to bear in mind when choosing evening dresses, and some places that you can find a dress at an excellent price.
You might already have a suitable pair of shoes to wear. In that case, don’t forget to take them with you when you shop! It’s important to try them on with the evening dresses, so that you can see how the two go together, and if the dress is the correct length. The dress will just look wrong with bare feet or flat shoes. At the very least, take a pair of high-heeled shoes, so that the dress will hang properly. It would also be helpful to wear a strapless bra, or one with straps that you can adjust to wear with different types of necklines.

If you choose this option, then be sure to check measurements carefully and buy in plenty of time, so that if the dress doesn’t fit or suit you, there is time to find an alternative (you can always resell the dress if the seller doesn’t accept returns. Also check out any dress shops in your area that sell second-hand designer wear, as although prices will not be cheap, you will be sure to find something beautiful at a price considerably below the original tag. Finally, vintage stores are worth a look, as you may find a one-off prom dress, and you can be sure that no-one else will be wearing the same gown!
